Black Rock

I hadn't been down to the Black Rock trails since October, so it was good to be back. Boy was it dry. A couple of weeks of no rain makes for great trails. I had a full van going down. It was Chip, Noah, an old friend Jeff and Paul and Mel from the Growlers gang. Lips and his buddie followed. We met up with Jamie,Derek and the flying chalupa and morman Craig once we got down there. Cold,  but not once we got to Basic. A few runs and we were tired and ready for sleep. A good time was had by all i think. Did i say that Fonzie was there?

Syncline and a bit of Post Canyon

Great day and ride. Crazy windy but still fun. They were getting 70 mph gusts  in the Gorge so we were wondering about the wisdom of our decision . I said to Jamie " Let's go..it will be an adventure" so we did.  It was Jamie, Derek,  Raul, and we met up with Fat Larry and Mr Clean later. On the way down I 84 the winds were howling. The Maing bus would jump 3 feet out of the lane every few minutes. We got to Syncline , which is on the Washington side of the Columbia and we noticed right away the the wind was at least half the strength it was in Portland. We may live to ride another day after all. We headed up to the top and there was a little snow on the road but it was no big deal, but it was colder.  Geared up , we were ready to ride and headed down. We realized that there was a bit of snow( actually ice) where the trees made it hard for the sun to get through.  Jamie went down twice and I just drug my feet. Out in the open it was quite a view. The trail skirts the edge of a cliff that is like 400 feet or more down to the rocks. A rider died there like 3 years ago . I guess he crashed close to edge and ..... well you know.  Into "Little Moab" we were attacking the rocks. Pretty tech sections. I didn't crash so i was having fun. At the bottom we picked up Larry and did another run. Then too many people were showing up so we headed to check out Post. Kind of early in the season for that so we couldn't get up too high. We hung around and sessioned Family man, Middle school and drop out to stay warm. It was like 32 Deg.  After an hour or so we headed for home. The wind got to be so crazy that we stopped to take some video and a few pic's. Great to get back out with those guys. looking forward to the next ride.

Ready to ride

In fact I'm waiting for Jamie right now. We're heading up the Gorge in high winds. I'm not sure how smart that is. We'll see.

Check my new custom ghetto sticker job.

New computer

We got a new computer, so now I'm back in business. Except it's snowing and freezing. The trails are snowed in and I'm not happy about that. I did ride to the store a few times in the snow and ice. That's always fun. Marla didn't like it much but at least she stayed up right.

Fall Riding

Fall is one of my favorite times to ride.I took Louis and Otto to Growlers Gulch and there we met Jim , Noah,Drew and Brian with his brand new Specialized 29'er. Nice and clean. We rode the usual trails and did the longer extension of the Terminator/Predator trail. Finally we did a death March to the top to find the entrance to the famed KMA trail. I rode it for the first time a few weeks back and was excited to find it by my self. We finally found the beginning and kept getting turned around ,so we had to cut over to the road and do the middle KMA and then out. Saw a ton of road hunters. I'm sure they had good luck driving around at 40 mph drinking their PBR.So, trails were in perfect condition and the weather could not have been nicer. The kid's had a great time and so did i.

First Trail-a-bike experence

I was going to head back up to Growlers Gulch today for more riding on the perfect trails and maybe ride a new one again but we found a deal on Craig's list. A trail-a-bike for Olivia. She's 4 and not riding yet so we figured this would be a great way to get her to her ballet class and get comfortable on a bike. We did about 5 miles and went to Home Depot and Trader Joe's and back. She did really good and was trying to stand up by the time we got home. I think I'll try it off road some time in the future.
